American Indian leaders are worried from the U.S. Department of Justice plan to enforce strict rules on electronic bingo games that are similar to slot machines. They are afraid the rules changing will damage the Indian casinos incomes.
State lawyers spoke before the Western Indian Gaming Conference, saying the rule change purpose is to create a clear difference between bingo games and the more profitable games such as slot machines.
Indian tribes leaders are afraid it will risk their gaming industry. Some of the tribal casinos make their major profit from the less regulated electronic bingo machines. They claim that those machines were carefully developed to meet the state requirements, and the tribes invested a millions of dollars in buying them.
