After the operation of the Delhi police carried out yesterday in the Mangol Puri area, in North-East Delhi, two cricket betting rackets were smashed and seven persons were arrested, accused of being involved in betting on the India-Sri Lanka one-day international cricket series. Among the persons arrested, five were from the Mangol Puri area, where the police raided a house and caught them betting on the ODI played at Rajkot. The police seized a TV set, books and ledgers with betting entries, several audio cassettes, and six mobile phones. The arrested persons were identified as Tarun Choudhary, Balwant Rai, Subhash Chander, Kamal Saluja, and Raj Kumar. At the time of their arrest, they had a betting amount worth Rs 4 lakh.
In the other raid carried out at Kanti Nagar Extension of East Delhi, two persons were arrested and the police seized one TV set, betting records, and several mobile phones. The arrested were identified as Sonu Sharma and Vinod Sharma. They were both using hi-tech betting devices and at the time of their arrest they had a betting amount of Rs 10 lakh.
