Craps

Picture yourself entering a casino. The casino is flashy, fancy, dripping of prestige (and cash) and has a lot of gaming options. Now walk amongst the tables, can you hear people cheering and yelling? What you are hearing is the sound of players and viewers of the craps table.

The craps is a dice game, and not a complicated one, but it has its own vibe and there is no casino game like it. There is no "mastering the game" at casino craps, though many craps fans will insist it has different tactics and strategies. What do I think? I really think it is all about luck.

The Game
  • Each player on his turn rolls the dice. If, on the first roll, he rolls a "natural" roll, which means a 7 or 11 - it's a win. The win doubles the amount of his bet.

  • If, on the first roll, he rolls a "craps" , which means 2, 3 or 12 - it's a lost.
  • If, on the first roll, he rolls a 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10, then the goal is to keep rolling the dice until the same number comes up again. If at that point he rolls a seven, it's a lost.
The game is operated by four people :
  • The Boxman
The boxman makes the calls of the game while sitting behind the middle of the table. His job is to watch the game and to make sure everything is working smoothly.
  • The Dealers
The craps has two dealers, one on each side of the boxman. Their job is to handle the pay outs in the game while each dealer handles the players on his side.
  • The Stickman
The stickman stand on the same side of the players and divide the table in two. His job is to control the pace of the game and the action of the dice.
